I interviewed users to identify gaps in the existing embedded visualization tool, performed extensive competitive research across different map-based visualization tools and technologies, and partnered with engineering to pull together the right technology to drive a best-in-class experience. The new visualization experience included innovative interactive patterns for geospatial exploration, including the ability for users to simply select geometries on a map and show origin and destination metrics in a single click, which made it possible to use data for detailed transportation planning decisions without having to upload metrics into a separate GIS tool. Leaning on eCommerce patterns, I designed a datamart strategy that would power a flow in which users could simply select road segments or standard geometries like ZIP codes and then receive a suite of metrics about those geometries as opposed to building more powerful, but also more complex, queries in the flagship product. The new product experience allowed the business to target a new class of customers beyond transportation engineering firms and government transportation agencies to retail businesses optimizing advertising spend or considering real estate purchases. My first project at SetSail was taking the data model from their original sales gamification product to power a new deal inspection experience for managers.Using both the raw activity and weighted signals in the existing data model, I designed a component that used the visual metaphor of waves to show inbound and outbound activity as well as key signals in deal timelines. I then designed interactions that made the visualization as the cornerstone of the experience, allowing sales managers to drill into particular activity and signals with ease. The new experience extended SetSail’s offerings across a new persona and set the stage for a more holistic product platform experience. I also managed the development of the new design, which led to a significant increase in customer sat and dramatically improved user experience. I led a customer research effort to understand pain points in the existing flow and dove deep in to the technical architecture of the application and data platform while designing the new experience. To overcome the hurdle of inconsistent industry language, I designed a illustrative iconography system that described concepts in visuals instead of words, which subsequently became a cornerstone of the company look-and-feel from a brand perspective and hydrated customer support content. Mindflash was a Learning Management System that allowed trainers to arrange content into courses, create exams, distribute training to trainees across web and mobile, and then track the results. In 2016, we shipped a UX overhaul that I spearheaded to resounding success: the redesigned product launched with complaints from existing customers, and our NPS improved signficantly once the first phase of the rollout was finished. To meet the needs of enterprise users, I introduced a more intuitive navigation pattern, contextually displayed metrics, powerful search functionality, configurable grids with bulk actions, and omni-directional user paths. In addition to the major overhaul, I also designed and shipped new course arrangment and composition tools, redesigned the learner-side experience, and managed a monolith-to-microservices initiative. The Exchange matched candidates that had been rejected to jobs that were better suited to them at other companies.I used a Venn diagram as an interface element as a way to express how well a candidate fit a given role vs. how much that candidate desired the role. I designed a first-of-kind solar panel monitoring application for them that accompanied their solar panel installations.The application was an integrated web and mobile experience that allowed an owner of a solar home system to monitor their system gains from any computer connected to the internet, mobile phone, or tablet. With my work on their app, Sungevity was first-to-market with pioneering IOT functionality.
